Love Zagreb!

Last night we had dinner at a restaurant which said on their website that it was "39 staircases" up so I was a little concerned so we took a test walk before.  Actually it was 39 steps - piece of cake!  I had gilt head fish (not guilt:) and it was excellent.  Ross has risotto excellent too and with 3 starters, 2 dinners, 4 glasses of wine and a complimentary "shot" of Croatian liquer at the end it was about $55 for both - unbelievable for such fine dining!  Our waiter was great and we have now changed Sunday Mother's Day reservations to this place and cancelled the other.

 Nice mural on the way home.  IPA at home is a beer type India Pale Ale but not sure what the rooster and chicken mean.

 Lotta meat!  The two small had eyes and mouth and the large had head body legs and the whole darn thing.

 This was in front of a restaurant and so clever with lots of little cups, plates and dinner setting stuff.

 So it's always a mystery but after tasting and using google translate I had plum jam and whole milk - mmmmmmm good and just like my growing up on the farm days.

 I walked to the Dolac market across the street and for a couple dollars got a bag of fresh cherries and strawberries.  The prices here are wonderful.  Most museums are under $5.

 We visited the Technical Museum and it was great.  Nikolai Tesla (think the car) was born in Croatia and died in NYC after being one of the discoverers of electricity.  He lived to 86 years old and he was not electrocuted.  Ross enjoyed all the technical and engineering stuff and so did I.

 A seaplane from bygone days and next week we will be taking one in Split to Dubrovnik but I think it's a little more advanced than this.

 Finally a car just my size!

 Built in Croatia and called a "weather sleigh" it is the earlier version of a snowmobile.

 And of course the "personal computer" which has come a long way - think your smartphone.

 St. Mark's Cathedral in Old Town.  We took an 1800s funicular for 2 minutes to get up the hill and Ross had to go to the Museum of Broken Relationships with me and we survived and are still together.  It was interesting and has lots of mementos from all over the world of failed relationships of all kinds.  There was even one from anonymous in Bloomington Minnesota - a 20 year old girl wrote it.

So all for the day - we walked about 6 miles so far and still have to hike up the hill a bit for dinner at an Italian restaurant but since it has seafood specialties that might again be my choice.  The people here are so friendly and wonderful and willing to help.  A woman my age or older offered me her seat on the tram.  I must say there is not much white hair here but there are white roots!!!!
