This is the number of castles we say in a day!
The Legend of Lorelei - a poem and a German song were written about this mythical story. The poem was set to music by more than 25 composers. It is said that Lorelei threw herself into the Rhine in despair over a faithless lover and then lured fisherman to destruction. Apparently it is a difficult part of the river to navigate and we did see the famous statue!
Interesting that this looks like a small castle but it is really a train or car tunnel that was added on to so the Nazis would not bomb a tunnel! There were many of these along the river road.
This was our day - we docked in Rudesheim, Germany. We had a choice of boarding a mini-train into Rudesheim or taking the Tauckfit walk - we did that - and then we visited Siegfrieds Mechanisches Musikkabinett museum with a huge selection of automatic music instruments the oldest from the 13th century.

This was an "island castle" and it was pretty cool!!!
One of the instruments in the museum. We had a local guide who was describing the instruments and said one had an "assilating membrane" - ummmm - she mean oscillating. On this same day the 2 guys were watching the pipes take sewage off the boat and made up the words: Einnsfahrtenshtink and Dein Schitersful - every day was another giggle and laugh day!
We had opted for the Excursion Lagniappe: Seilbahn Rudesheim, a gondola ride taking us up to the Niederwald monument to view the vinehards and the Rhineland valley. The Niederwalddenkmal is a monument built in the 1870s or 1880s to commemorate the unification of Germany after the end of the Franco-Prussian war. As a side note I think my German heritage is Prussian.

The main statue holds the recovered crown of the emporer in the right hand and in the left the Imperial Sword. One the left side is a peace statue and the war statue is on the right.
Love signs - I did not lean on the cable car door from this elevation!

We just call them the Butt Boys as they posed for another photo - good sports they are!
And the end of the day and getting back to the riverboat - love the sign!
