What a great start to a trip! It just so happened that we were leaving the same day as my brother and wife so not only did they get to spend the night, we rode the airport shuttle together and hung out at the airport before we headed to Amsterdam and they to Oslo, Norway!
Yup it's been legal here for a long time but we have yet to try it and doubt we will. We don't see any people who look stoned or drugged either.
Both of these are just down the street from our hotel but they are all over town also. Then we wondered "Why is that place so crowded?" It must be the popularity of the cheese and it smelled awesome.
What else but another great famous organ in the Grote of St. Bavo Kerk aka Great Church of St. Bavo's Haarlem. 5068 pipes and Mozart played at 10 years old and Handel also played this organ. The church was enormous and awesome.
The entire floor is covered with 1500 gravestones and few with names only numbers. There are large documents on the wall with the number and it gives the name.
So we were walking through this outdoor market and all of a sudden lots of loud sirens and my phone started buzzing and beeping very loudly like it does at home the first Monday of every month at 1pm for a tornado drill.
I looked at my phone and saw this. Noone else seemed at all concerned so we just kept meandering around and figured it must be a normal practice drill. In this day and age it is a bit unnerving.
This is our hotel and we can walk to everywhere in the center of town....and breakfast is included!
One more church that was darker, smaller, more wood, less gold and honoring St. Francis of Assissi. It too was amazing.
So two churches down and several more to go I am sure. Pretty soon it's my turn:):):)
