Heading to dinner - stories later~
Back to notes - today is 10/22/2017 and we have been back for 12 days and there is now less news about the horrible Las Vegas mass shooting. A deranged 64 year old retired rich guy shot 59 people dead and injured close to 500 from the 32nd story window of the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas. Son Chris and daughter-in-law Amy stayed there in February with some friends. He apparently had smuggled in many big guns in 9 suitcases. I don't have an answer to this!!! This was the front page of the daily newspaper at our Hope Street Hotel in Liverpool, England.
Today 10/22 Lucy was asking me about the Beatles and she knew of John Lennon and with a little clue Paul McCartney but had never heard of Ringo Starr or George Harrison; of course she is only 9 years old and was born in 2008!!!
This was our transport with our driver Mike and it was great. Nice Beatles music in the background and constant stories about the Beatles and all their years.
This is no longer a pub but still a Beatles stop as they would pop in here now and then.
And good old Penny Lane - it was a street near John Lennon's childhood home that is a roundabout with a bus stop where John Lennon and Paul McCartney would meet each other.
And yes the famous barber shop where the Fab Four got haircuts. It is still a working barber shop, very simple with about 4 chairs and the owner/operator woman gets tip money from all the tourists and guides.

Paul McCartney's family home and it is quite lovely.
"Strawberry Fields Forever" - loved that song. The Victorian mansion was converted into an orphanage and the song was written by John Lennon. It was a Salvation Army children's home just around the corner from John Lennon's home where he and his mother lived with his Aunt Mimi after his mother and father separated. Aunt Mimi got full guardianship but John apparently would climb the walls to the orphanage and play and have fun with all the kids and sneak into the dorm to sleep there. It was a good part of his life hence the song.
John was born an only child in Liverpool in 1940 during the heaving bombing and air raids of WWII in Liverpool. His mother was hit by a car on a nearby street while he was living with his aunt. Mimi died in 1991 and John, his first wife Cynthia and second wife Yoko Ono along with his son Julian attended the funeral.
John and Paul were in a boy choir at St. Paul's church and played, then later drank and smoked in this attached graveyard. Some of their songs had their start here - "Father MacKenzie" and they didn't even know him - only his tombstone.

Ross had a grandfather named Edward Ross Jones so of course I noted this Edward Jones tombstone. I still love cemeteries - and now crypts!

38 Falkner Street, Liverpool - where their manager Brian Epstein died at age 32 from drug and alcohol overdose. The song "Secrets" aka "Do You wanna know a Secret and I promise not tell......" was the story of this house. John and his first wife Cynthia lived here for a few months when they first married as they had no money.
George Harrison is the only Beatle who had a fairly normal life!!!
Dock for Mersey Ferries which is very modern.
Loved these steps and it is all about the Beatles even though it is a ferry stop for workers in Liverpool and across the Mersey River and also goods transport stops.
The "Ferry Cross the Mersey" - not fancy and it was a very cold and windy day in the 50s so we stayed in the closed lower level but it had good windows for the 50" ride.
This is quite the statue on the building - the ladies on the hop on hop off bus tour were looking quite carefully!
