One Year ago: As I knew we would, we are all reflecting on a year ago today with Amy just out of surgery, one eye black and blue and swollen shut, no movement in left arm, hand or leg but noone wanted her to know this. Chris' email to us that night ..."a relief that this part is over". We had Alex and Lucy at our house and Alex was talking nearly nonstop - maybe anxious? After hearing from Chris he says "Mommy is getting better" - then proceeds with a tall tale of when he put ink in Chris' eyeball but Chris did not know it as it was a secret from him.
Today: Received a reminder that a Russia Visa application will be due by 2/11 - took me all afternoon and not yet complete, 41 questions, needed to have the addresses and phone numbers of my colleges, my workplaces and all of the countries with dates that I visited in the last 10 years - WOW - not enough room so I put that on hold and emailed a question to our contact.
Tucson Memorial Service: President Obama's speech asking for peace, humility, civility and kindness and to know what is important in life - when will we all learn? Front page headline in our paper "Our Hearts are Broken".
Facebook: Everyone seems to have a love/hate relationship with the beast. But with my entire family and most of my friends on it I find myself enjoying the "daily news". Of our upcoming Russian trip a friend says "DON'T GO". However, it is now 30 years since the first time I travelled out of the country with 2 friends and Arthur Frommer's book "Europe on $5 a Day". We accomplished it most of the time....now it is a few hundred $ a day!!!!!! Of course my wages then were a little over $300 a month and that was good for the time.
Quote of the day: Kindness can become its own motive. We are made kind by being kind. (Eric Hoffer)
