Wow - we might be thinking this is our best trip ever! Today we arrived in Fussen via train from Murnau to Garmisch-Partenkirchen then Reutte in Tyrol (*Astria), bus from there to Fussen - wonderful ride through the Alps, past alpaca farms, cows, roosters, horses. It was a beautiful sunny day and weather is way better than predicted. Below is a view in Oberammergau where last night we attended the Passion Play - hard to describe the experience, spoke to a German this morning who said "I am still thinking of it" - it brings the Bible to life right to seeing Jesus on the cross between two murderers also on crosses with blood. It is truly the experience of a lifetime and the next one is 2020 - can start reserving in spring of 2018 - unbelievable. 4700 people in the audience, 1000 actors all from the city - must live there 20 years minimum to be in the play. There are two people who play Jesus as there are 102 performances over 6 months and months before of rehearsals.
This is the actual theater building - you can tell this has been done since 1633 - and also led by the Germans - so well organized it is unbelievable. We got picked up by bus on a country road in front of our hotel joined by a German couple - the same couple who helped us to the right bus on the way home at midnight - play is total 5 hours long with a 2.5 hour dinner break.
This is the stage - live animals, many actors - no film allowed during play - I could hear crying from the audience in some parts...the play this year showed that God loves everyone.
I might be bad but while Ross attended an evensong service at a Lutheran church in Oberammergau I went to the shops - but I happened on this beautiful sight of the moon over the Alps in this city overrun with tourists....thought it wonderful and right in the center of town.
Dee and Ross,
