So another Jolly Fisherman family reunion on the books!! Lotta stuff to pack in 2 cars full to the brim and I take a 22 or 25" suitcase to go on a 2 week international trip! What the heck??? It's a small resort, my brother has a cabin on the Big Elbow Lake and no restaurant or grocery so we bring everything in the trunk!
Our car - full to the brim!Son Chris' car full too - and we had 8 people so 4 in each car and I got to ride with the "kids"!
First stop - Waubun MN - Drastic Measures brewing restaurant and excellent food and fun. My brother and 2 stepsons from California were here for a week of fun, giggles and campfires and "stuff".
And as usual a little stop along the way for worms, night crawlers and other creepy stuff. A couple years ago my nephew bought some in a lidded container near us and forgot them in our frig and I found them after they went back to CA!
My baby brother Brian is 13 years younger than me so we have so many different memories of growing up and it's very interesting!
Brother Kent always hosts the first night at their cabin and it was rainy and we did fit 18 people in the little cabin and a camper and as always had plenty of food!
And off go the guys for fishing - daughter-in-law Amy and I were certainly outnumbered by the guys but we are fine with that as we went shopping for a few hours in Walker MN with my sister-in-law and a stop for lunch overlooking Leech Lake MN
Grandson Alex now a senior in high school and never ever wants to miss the fishing/reunion trip - we are very lucky!
Schultz guy showing off the BIG fish - NOT!
The ladies on the dock - we are very fortunate to have each other and we have all been through cancer stuff and there we are!
Of course I'm always the shortest one in between my brothers. We always miss my 3rd brother who was 2 years younger than me and died at age 34 of a rare leukemia leaving behind 3 small children and the youngest only 6 months old.
On the way back from the fishing trip of course we had to stop at another brewery in Carlos MN and yes the ceiling light is made from deer antlers! It is Minnesota ya know ya betcha fer shur!
Next day - what else but the annual Great Minnesota Get Together and there were only 117,400 people there that Thursday compared to 240,667 on Saturday - we lucked out!
Sweet Martha's cookies and I turned around and saw this person and asked her if she was Martha - yup she was and I remember going to a talk she gave many years ago about starting her own cookie business.
And of course had to stop in the Dairy Building to check out the latest butter sculpture.
And the annual State Fair parade and then we headed back home for a little R&R and happy hour!
And a little celebrating with Thai food for my brother's 49th wedding anniversary.
2009 - first year at Jolly Fisherman and we will always remember my mom saying "Keep doing this after I'm dead because it's fun" - and she died less than a year later of a heart attack at 83 years old. She lived a full and fun life!
My mom with little Lucy who was about 1.5 years old and they loved each other.
OK - so suitcase out - tee shirts counted and tomorrow we hit the air, then the road, then the Danube for a couple weeks. Always ready to travel is our motto!
