So - after an 8 hour flight, 3 hour layover in Amsterdam, 11.5 hour flight to Cape Town, South Africa -we are here and all is well. We saw 2 sunrises without a bit of sleep and at 72 and 76 years old in Minnesota talk "not too bad"!!
The Cape Town airport was lovely, perfectly clean and our bags did not get lost and we met our Pennsylvania friends in Amsterdam.
This will be the few "cool" days we have in the 60s and the rest of the trip will be pretty warm so they say....like in the 90s. We are staying in a 120 year old hotel named after Lord Nelson and Winston Church wrote some notes here and John Lennon meditated in the beautiful park grounds of the hotel. It's pretty nice to have a screen on the flights that shows you where you are and we went pretty darn far like maybe 16,000 miles. I need to do a correct calculation on that!
I looked out our window this morning and I see a guy swimming and a big bird swimming up and to the right of him. Hmmmm -interesting. We were told to drink only bottled water but of course when I ordered a Coke this afternoon on our free day out it had lots of ice cubes - so far so good.
Our friends from previous trips are with us (from Pennsylvania) and we took a shuttle from the hotel to the Victoria and Albert Wharf and I saw they had a Woolworth's. I'm thinking gotta go there as my grandma took me to the soda fountain in the Woolworth's in Thief River Falls, MN and I was fascinated with the round rotating seats at the counter and how they made malts. Well - not quite the same here but the clothes looked pretty nice. What can I say - Ross, Greg and Linda standing in front of the perfect sign and trying to decide which cannabis chocolate bars to buy in this huge mall. Well they got 5 and after my research and label reading it's hemp seeds which have a lot of vitamin and protein health benefits but not the same effect as marijuana👀😊😄💨
Greg played in a band a lot of his life and the super street mime guy and Greg were great and got a huge following shaking to the tune!
The little school kids loved him and us too and wanted to stand close and so polite.
So the guys would not get in the photo - guys you know!
And the soon to be famous cannabis chocolate bar photo!
Victoria and Albert Wharf and we loved the city signs behind us and it helped us figure out where we have not been!
Yup - 5 big chocolate bars from Amsterdam - how could you go wrong with Dutch chocolate???
And the report the South African wine is very good and in the next few days we will be having a wine pairing dinner in a vineyard and at least unlike Morocco we will have a lot of white wine and red wine gives me headaches!
Time to go out to dinner!
