This is 23-26 September - so yesterday in Sorrento and back to Venice!
So - still need to put stories on my previous post. But after 3 nights in Venice we took a lovely Frecciarossa train (fast train) ride to Naples. I was looking forward to the snacks and free prosecco bubbly wine that was part of the deal but turns out the "catering group" was on strike. Now I know strikes are frequent in Italy but there was no food in the "Bistro" car except for a few plastic bottles of water - oh well! A driver picked us up for drive to Sorrento and we have a super apartment with 4 bedrooms and 2 real bathrooms:) So backing up a bit on the photos - starting in Sorrento and back in Venice to today September 26 in Sorrento!
OK - it took overnight to load the pictures but it's now 7:15am in Sorrento and free morning and we have a scheduled cooking class 3:30-8:30 so we make our own dinner and have wine too!
This is the water buffalo hospital or infirmary:
The best buffalo mozzarell cheese I have ever tasted! And internet searching tells me there is a small water buffalo farm in Wisconsin and it appears we can order online. I will have to check that out - or return to Campania Italy:):):)
Yup - it's a John Deere on the water buffalo farm!
They have their own "cubicle" and have a chip in each one that tracks when they are ready to be milked. The farm is called Vannulo Water Buffalo Farm. They have 8 bulls and 600 female buffalo. They get to take lovely showers, have massages and listen to Mozart for relaxation. Their food is alfalfa, barley, corn with some herbs to make the cheese very tasty.
Next stop on this Day Tour is Paestum - started in 800 BC - yes over 2800 years ago. One of the well preserved structures is 800BC, next one 600BC and next 500 BC. History is Poseidon, Neptune, Greeks and Romans - quite the history and somehow they managed to get along for quite a while

Temple of Hera: The goddess of women, fertility and childbirth and I learned the pomegranate is for both fertility and pregnancy "protection". Need to do a little searching on these details!
Our guide Maria told us they are very thankful to Americans because on 9 September 1943 Operation Avalanche landed in Salerno near here . The Allies landed in an area occupied by German troops. It was one of the world's largest landing operations under American General Mark Clark. Very interesting history!
Dinner in Sorrento at Marina Grande - or the marina where lots of boats come in. It was a windy day and we were told of the Tramanto Wind which lasts 3 days and we did get to experience it a couple times.
This was a restaurant/snack bar called the 5 Love Sisters - and here we are - the grannies who are just like sisters!
Twenty years ago Ross and I stayed at this hotel and he booked a lovely room on the marina side with a balcony and it was very very nice! I'm more of a cheapskate!
And the harbor at Marina Grande, Sorrento, Italy - quite a hike down the stairs but they actually have an elevator to take us to the top.
Tuesday 25 September 2018. We took the hydrofoil or "fast ferry" to Capri and it was a little bumpy and packed with people but people all over got up and gave us their seats. It's kind of nice to have white hair and be of a certain age.
Capri - we landed at the harbor and then walked to find the funicular to the city center - works perfectly. I love this sign in all the different languages.
And the public toilet (cheap but not free) sign seems to have it all: men, women, stamps, lockers, maps!
It was very easy to determine which is the ladies room and sometimes in some countries with some signs I am just not sure and have been known to go in the wrong one.
Walking back to our apartment in Sorrento after dinner and it was a beautiful sky with a full moon and a few clouds.
Capri - what is a day without gelato - there is no such thing!!!
Capri - ?Dumbo the Flying Elephant"? We never did figure out what the meaning was but it was a statue of a little girl pulling the big guy up with a rope.
And a beautiful view from Anacapri - the top of the hill and we took a little city bus and the roads are very winding and narrow. It was quite the adventure.
First night dinner in Sorrento - yes those are ham legs hanging on the wall and the pizza was superb and the staff so cute!
I was the designated "bag watcher" at the Venezia Ferrovia Santa Lucia train station waiting for our train to Naples. We took turns doing this!
The famous San Marco or St Mark's Square in Venice.
Sign in Venice apartment - always a giggle to see the translations and I think they mean "your luggage" not "our luggage".
