Washington DC Here we Are!

About 3 years ago a retired pastor in our church said they take their grandchildren one-by-one (they had 8) on a trip for their 10th birthday.  We thought it was a great idea and so do the grandchildren - who would have guessed?  Alex chose Washington DC.

First one:  Alex all ready to hit the road in our front hall.

 Cockpit visit on the plane - pilot's name was also Alex - pretty cool!

 A few years ago I introduced him to my favorite childhood candy that my grandpa bought for me - Necco wafers.  So being blessed with the best daughter-in-law he pops these out on the plane labeled one for Grammy and one for Alex.

 Ross and Alex discussing how the Metro works.  He then knew exactly how it operated and where we needed to go.  When I asked him how he could do this he said "I listen good the first time" - hmm - I might have to try that idea!

 We hit the streets running after arrival, figured out the Metro and got to Union Station to get the DC Ducks tickets (not a sports team thank goodness)!  It is a beautiful building.

 But what we found inside was even better in the heat of the day at 4:00pm - Hagen Daz ice cream!

 This is our boat/truck.  1940s armored vehicle called "Duck Soup" and we lucked on and got on the last tour of the day with tour guide Captain Jimmy.  We drove all over town and then slipped right into the Potomac River.  This is a city of beautiful buildings to be proud of.

 Alex and Ross got the front seat - lucky day all around.

 In front of this News Museum Building are metal boxes with daily papers from all over - changed every day!

 Into the water we go:

 I like to see buildings being taken care of instead of torn down.  The Capitol Dome (one dome inside another) weighs 14.1 million pounds.

 Dinner last night - mine was "Delicious Duo" and it was a bison burger (with the flag) and Angus beef burger with the stick and guess what????  I liked the bison!!!

So Alex has studied, tabbed and highlighted his two books for months, has the metro figured out and on the land tour yesterday pointed out the places on his list as we passed by.  That little head holds a lot of information.
On to another nice warm day.....
