Sunny Days!

The pictures are a view from our hotel room and an interesting billboard - not sure what it means! I wrote a nice long blog last night but can't figure out how to copy in. First, we know there was a bomb blast in Cairo on Sunday night but not affecting us. There are armed "tourist police" with high power rifles on nearly every corner. Went for a walk last night and had to walk through a group of them one of whom was standing behind a bulletproof street stand. Went to the Egyptian museum today - wonderful! with our Egyptologist on a nice tour bus which has a police escort on board. We feel very safe. Went to a restaurant called "Steak" last night in our hotel to try the Angwu ? Australian/Japanese steak - figured it was $115 for the steak alone so we both had fish - Instead of a $500 meal bill it was only $200 - this is the only night we had to pay so guess what tomorrow night we are going to the Steak place with another traveller who ate lunch with us and we are ordering everythingl! Ross said we may have been perceived as cheapskates but as Scarlett would say "Frankly my dear I don't give a d---." The couple next to us had chicken and lamb - ended up they are with our group!
What we learned:
each time you cross the street cars with threaten to run you down and honk. I have not seen any dead people yet except the mummies.
Lean back when the camel stands up and they lift their back legs first.
Don't eat anything that you haven't peeled yourself and only bottled water.
Menus are not posted outside restaurants - hmmm I wonder why not! ...don't know the prices
Bottom line: The weather is beautiful, blue sunny skies and as you can see the Nile view from our hotel is wonderful. Somehow we got upgraded in our room and it is HUGE. Other than the people driving the cars :) we are treated wonderfully and everyone smiles and is very helpful. It is a great life experience and we feel very safe out walking and have done that 3 times now and never feel threatened of course as I said there are all those high powered rifles protecting us - called "tourist police" in little booths and "tourist and antiquities police". The Egyptologist will be with us the whole trip as will our travel director who has homes in both Kauai, Hawaii and a house in the tropical area in Thailand (Siam REap - Sara take note)
For breakfast we had choice of beef bacon or beef or chicken sausage - duh - no pork as it is Muslim. We didn't really like the beef bacon.
