Movin' on to Spring Please!

March 20 at about noon was the first day of spring and this is what was in our daily paper that day.  Even the meteorologists are getting crabby!
The best thing to divert attention from a bad winter is fun so this past weekend we had niece Molly, Josh, Lily, Claire and Hazel for 3 nights and a lot of fun.  The girls got to sleep upstairs in a bedroom near ours while Molly, Josh and Hazel got the hibernation cold spot basement!.  Lucy wanted a sleepover too so I woke up to 3 little quiet girls standing beside my bed waiting for me to open my eyes.
Alex was the Chief Chef making smoothies but I really call them malts because they had more ice cream than anything - the deal is to scour the counter and frig and put in anything that might make it good.  Even Hazel at 11 months liked the concoction.
The girls had a "tea party" along with place cards for us - it was delightful to pretend to drink tea and eat green and red grapes which were really glass baubles.
Salon Night - This is serious business when you have a houseful of girls.  I styled Lucy's, Lucy styled Claire's....
and they all styled Molly's - whoa - that's a lot of gear in the hair.  One of Lucy favorite toys is my box of barrettes, bobby pins and hair clips - pretty cheap toy.
Second cousin buddies Lucy and Lily.
Lucy and I had a morning alone so we made 5 birthday cards; mostly she did that - and she made a guest list for the birthday/pizza party.  Then she said she wanted to hand out the cards and we could all have a "group hug".  Katy did end up coming so the number was upped to 17.  This is without much coaching for spelling except for Claire's name.
Little Sweet Hazel named after my mom and what a charmer she is.
Birthday dinner - Hazel has a piece of pizza hanging out of her mouth and is having a stare down contest with Scott.  It had us all laughing because she won for the longest stare.
"Kid's Table" - didn't we all grow up with that when the dining room table got full of adults?
The DQ cake and it was yummy and it was a last minute thought so I pulled it out of the DQ freezer and the nice lady said she was sure she could get all the names on it.  We didn't know Katy would be there so that would have been one more.  March is a big month in our family.
The birthday gang.  Notice the beautiful "table settings" the girls did using my plastic charger plates, the crocheted place mats Jenny made for us and of course the fake food and glass beads.
And then......a big accomplishment today to get the house cleaned, do all the laundry, change all the beds. polish my toenails and fingernails and pack my bag for San Diego leaving in the morning.   I'm hoping to come back to something more resembling spring.
Claire to Dee:  "I like to play with Ross; he's a crazy bugger".  She's 2 going on 70!
