Globetrotting Grannies Rock On!!!

Fran, Kathy, Dee ready to hit the air to Lisbon, Portugal and change planes in Paris:
First stop in Lisbon - Pingo Doce - large supermarket where we get good Portugese wine for el cheapo!  This was dried salted fish of some kind and it definitely had a "fishy" smell.
Living room in our apartment with 4 clocks and a naked mannequin which we need to find a name for - hmmmmm what could it be?  Kathy, Doreen, Dee, Linda, nudie and Fran:)
First night dinner and yes we did decide it was a much better idea to buy bottles of wine instead of glasses.
A little wine left over and our waitress tells us it is just fine to carry it home - so that was Linda's job.
Passed by a little bakery where we could watch little breads being made by hand.  In Portugese bread is pao, French is pain, Italy is pane and the list could go on and on and on.
This reminds of France and all the "mimes".  They are real people and were playing fado music and it made me itch just to look at them as they were all in bronze paint.
There was a woman driver with no passengers trying to get around a corner and we watched for a long time and it was getting worse and worse - hmmm - I would sure like to know the outcome.
Overlooking the city at Castel S Jorge a big fortress/castle on the hill overlooking the city.
As everywhere else they are trying to keep the streets clean and I must admit it's working as it is a very clean city.
I love signs!  .....and of course toilets but the toilets here are pretty "normal".

Sunday 23 April 2017.  We visited the Museum of Decorative Arts which was once a private home with furnishings from the 16th-18th century and it was beautiful.  In 1947 Ricardo do Espirito Santo Silva restored this Azurura Palace to house his collection.  I guess it is "a unique stroll through an aristocratic household".
Hmmmm - it says don't touch but these guns look old and interesting.
There was a room with just chairs from the 16th to 18th centuries and this was called a "comfort chair" and what we would call a recliner or maybe a LaZBoy:):):)
We randomly decided to take a tuk tuk from atop the hill to the next place and this guy was great.  He was in his 20s and his name was Joao (John in English like my husband John Ross Jones!!) and he has one year of college left to get his Anthropology degree.  He did a lot of touring the city and talking about how real people live.  Tomorrow is the anniversary of the "Carnation Revolution" in 1974 where the military only overthrew the dictator Antonio Salazar who apparently a cross between a lawyer, an economist and a dictator.  The revolution was one day and noone was killed and they put flowers in cannons and gun barrels.  Yes 6 people fit in the electric tuk tuk similar to a golf cart.
View from Miraduoro which apparently was very quiet until it was "discovered" by tourists a few years ago.  The River Tajo and is about 9 kilometres across or about 5.4 miles.
I think this was some kind of a military memorial.
Joao took us to a little place in the Alfama district so we could taste the cherry liqueur famous in Portugal called ginjinha and it is excellent so it will be in my suitcase.  However they said 4 shots might make you fall over.  This was the owner and he had a few front teeth missing and quite the "warm hugger".
This was one of the rooms in the tile museum and it is my goal to have the most perfect house - ha get real on that one!!!
The tile museum or Muzeu do Azulejo which was a former convent and had a cloister and the most beautiful chapel or church I have ever seen.
I think this might be the tile of a hairdresser.
Joao pointed out this "laundromat" in Alfama where the ladies do your laundry by hand in these big laundry tubs.  Wow - olden days on the farm came to mind but we did have a wringer washer.
As usual our lunch was gelato and since we walked 24 flights of stairs and 10,000 steps by 3pm we had to have a double scoop before our rest time usually by 3pm then hmmmmm.....happpppyyyy hourrrrrrr:):):)
Tomorrow a tour day.  I'm going to post this and it is not proofed as it's time to head out again so there might be additions and changes when I have time.
